Well, you have to take into account the sheer size and stretch of coast that California has. Because of its size, California kind of has an advantage over other states.

The reason I point out the importance of the size of a state is because, for example, if part of the East Coast were to form a single state with an area equivalent to that of California, the enclosed BosWash corridor would become even greater than California, becoming the largest state by population with over 50 million residents, and would also have the 5th largest economy in the world if it were a separate nation.

While the hypothetical uniting of the East Coast from Boston to Washington to match the size and coastline of California will never happen, it illustrates that just as much power as is found in California can be found in other similarly sized areas. The only difference is that California happens to be one state (somewhat by sheer luck), whereas the East Coast remains fragmented among different states.

So, California cannot really take all this pride in their standing as the "best state." It is simply a result of chance and size.

Ohio was powerful tonight...along with Florida and Virginia. They played a large role in electing our new President Obama

I would never live in California because of the following

1.Politically it's way too far to the left hence why I call it the Republic Of California

2.The cost of living is way too high

3.It's earthquake country

4.Way too many illegal immigrants and people who speak little to no English

lol @ people acting like all of california from end to end is densely populated. the whole boswash cop out is hilarious by east coasters, they always get an inferiority complex its funny. a VAST amount of the state is rural/no economic impact...that goes to show how big L.A and the Bay Areas economies are

in ending, my answer is yes
