Is it really true that poker is illegal in US?
I mean in Europe and all over the world this game has gained huge popularity recently. All those live tournaments and on-line cash games, ya know.
And many of the best poker players are Americans, so it surprises me that it is illegal in your country.

Online poker is legal in the US. What is illegal is for banks to transfer money directly to an internet gambling site. There are plenty of sites that accept US players yet, and the laws are written for owners and operators of gambling sites, not players on those sites. Plus if you are playing poker online and not gambling for money, then there is zero chance for problems.

Poker in U.S. casino's are obviously legal. But are you saying it's also legal to have poker games at places other than a casino? I don't think so.

Yes, there are friendly home games and stuff, which may be technically illegal, but no law enforcement agencies are going to bust Billy and Johnny having a nickel and quarter games at their homes.

But what if I were to advertise and host a large scale cash poker tournament at a local hotel. Are you saying this is going to fly? I doubt it.

The question was if POKER was legal in the US, not if GAMBLING on the outcome of poker was legal.
