I've tried many spots in the mid-Atlantic but still prefer KFC (original) over any of them. Very occasionally it is to greasy but usually it is tasty and safe.

Lo-Lo's Chicken and Waffles just south of downtown Phoenix.

Phoenix's version of LA's Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles or Atlanta's Gladys and Ron's Chicken and Waffles.

There are plenty of good fried chicken in the Northern States. You must haven't tried Harold's Chicken in Chicago.
