What does a redneck say right before he dies?
"Hey, ya'll...watch this!"

Having had to live around rednecks (though not everyone I met was one) for the past 18 years (Georgia) I can say that a lot of it has to do with them shoving religion and right wing politics down my throat the last several years.

Had the same experience. They're also racist, intolerant and ignorant especially in front of women from another country. First impression was my last impression. Redneck is a derogatory word. Why be proud of that?
Now a good honest, patriotic hardworking American yeah they're good people.
Hunters are also quite nice people, being a hunter myself.

The problem with this stupid word is that NOBODY agrees on what a Redneck is.
I'm been called a Redneck because I like NASCAR and Harleys.
But I also like the Symphony and Broadway Shows.
It's just another word that people use to put down other people. And it has nothing to do with it's origins.

Yes, for example the comment above about equating religion and right-wing politics to being a redneck.
The term, I believe, originated out of Mississippi...it was a reference to the farmers whose necks were sunburned from daily field work. It was originally meant to be affectionate, not derogatory. Mississippians were referred to as 'rednecks', North Carolinians 'tarheels', and Georgians and Floridians 'crackers'.

There's also a fairly common belief that the terms "hillbilly" and "redneck" originate from much older roots. Some believe the terms were given to lowland Scot presbyterians who supported the ascendency of William of Orange (King Billy) to the crown of Britain. Since they were from the hills and supporters of King Billy, they were called "hillbillies." They were also purported to wear red sashes around their necks, thus the origin of the term "redneck." Not sure if I believe this or not but there it is.
These were the same folks who typically settled Appalachia.

Yep I can confirm it comes from Scotland. But not used anymore. It's more so aimed at people from the south that are backwards etc.
