I'm been called a Redneck because I like NASCAR and Harleys.
But I also like the Symphony and Broadway Shows.
It's just another word that people use to put down other people. And it has nothing to do with it's origins.

There is a HUGE difference between "redneck" and just plain "white trash". I think the OP shows clearly what category he falls into.

Actually, it's the exact opposite. These were Scots who emigrated to Ulster to help pacify the Catholic Irish. Most of those who moved to America seem to have been born in Ireland but some who were born in Scotland and lived for a short period came over as well. When they came to America, many of them self-identifed as Irish having been born there, my ancestors did this. I have documents with interviews of some of them who immigrated and sons of the immigrants as well who referred to themselves as Irish. However, when the potato famine hit and the massive waves of real Irish hit these shores, they began referring to themselves as Scots-Irish so they wouldn't get lumped in with poverty stricken, and oft maligned, Irish. In a way, you're right, this doesn't REALLY exist as a historical people. It was self referrence of convenience to avoid persecution, much like the term "Black Dutch."
Like it or not, the Scots-Irish do exist. They may not be a distinct genetic pool nor are they a distinct nationality. But the term does describe a very distinct wave of immigrants, all originating from a singular source and all coming for very similar reasons. Without a doubt Scots-Irish does NOT refer to a "race" but is merely a convenient moniker for one specific immigrant wave.

It depends whether its a racist redneck or just a plain redneck. Now racist devil rednecks can die. Aint nothing wrong wit rednecks as long as they arent devils. Now if you a devil AND a redneck then fukc you. But if you come correct then you get peace. But if you come bogus then we gotta strike justice down on your neck. Its all about righteousness, and thats the science I draw.

Moose can't even write a decent sentence and he wonders why people make fun of rednecks.
Why would someone who probably says he's proud to be an American, be proud that he can't write in English- our language?

Well for whatever reason, wheather I was exactly right on this issue or not, They were lumped together as two races although they were either one or the other. which was really my point. I was given this information by a college professor. So I assumed that he knew what he was talking about. I think there is a lot of truth to what he said, however, my main point was that they were not of both ancestries.
