the underground in london is 24 hours, and the clubs are open very late. I use to go to a place called Fabric that wouldn't close until 10 am the next day. was usually a very interesting and awkward ride home on the tube those mornings.....lol

Who told you the London Underground is open 24 hours a day?? I'm guessing you got to the club before Midnight, and were in there partying for the 5 hours the train was shut down.

It's actually one of the more restricted metro systems for its size.

On weeknights the final trains usually leave their stations around 11:30pm. I'm always shocked when I go to take a train around midnight and remember they're already shutting down.

Most trains start around 5am.

Weekends I believe run a little later, but certainly not 24 hours a day. Only on New Years and one or two huge occasions.

I miss my hometown. You cannot beat 24 hour subway service.
Whenever I go to DC, I try to get my subway fix although the Metro close around 3 AM on the weekends.
In Chicago the red, and the blue lines are 24 hours.
Atlanta GA needs to extend their hours on the MARTA
Philly's Subway stops running at 12 or 1 AM if I believe.
I wish that the Hampton Roads area had some type of transportation system running until at least 2AM

Most people know the NYC subway system runs 24/7.

I take the 4 train to work. It drives me crazy when it runs express when it's behind schedule. It has us waiting there extra time, and also makes the next train twice as crowded. Trains are supposed to run every 10 minutes or so. Gotta love it when you wait 20 minutes and there's 2 trains (or buses) right behind one another.

Does NYC actually have a substaintial amount of people riding the subway at all hours of the day?

Riding P.T. in Atlanta, D.C., and Philly is pretty risky at night and this is the reason why they running at certain hours.

You would be surprised. One train is 10 cars long and it's usually fairly crowded. Forget rush hour--you would be lucky if you can squeeze on a train at all. Sometimes when I come home around 2-3am and I don't have a seat.
