You sure that they first waited for leases before constructing? Most of the ones went under construction in late 2007, when things did not even look close to as bad as things are now. It stopped once Summer rolled around.
If the project received financing, which almost all of them do, then there would be a stipulation requiring a certain percentage of sales prior to starting construction. At least that's the way I understand it - someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The diversity of Atlanta's economy gives the city a lot of areas to "ride on". The job losses have been huge, but Atlanta will continue to absorb those losses. I mean, this city was burned to the ground and came back stronger than ever 5 years later. You don't actually think a sour economy will really affect us...do you?
What a stupid comparison. There are plenty of areas in Detroit that look like the area on the right, and areas in Atlanta that look like the picture on the left.
That first picture is beautiful. a quick fix up and it would be incredible. So much potential. I think that's one difference between Detroit and Atl, Detroit has potential.
You would be VERY hard-pressed to find an area of Atlanta that looks even remotely like the first pic. There are areas of abandonment, but they are very limited - and none of them include bombed out shells of empty highrises in the background.
The second pic is of Lenox Rd in Buckhead, around the corner from Lenox Square. I can absoutely guarantee you that there is NOTHING even remotely comparable to this area ANYWHERE within the City Limits of Detroit - not even close.

All cities have potential, Billiam. Are you suggesting that there is no potential in Atlanta?
