I guess Education, Medical, Locations.
Maybe some states want to be poor. Like I think New Mexico wants to have Adobe houses instead of brick houses because of the history involved. but that is a very good question. But I would not know about Mississippi I would think that state would be rich & west virginia

Only poor by American standards. Even the poorest state in the U.S would not be considered poor by 3rd world country standards. Last time I checked New Mexico, Mississippi, and West Virginia do not have neighborhoods that look like this.

I think internal economies may also have to do with it. Some states have natural resources, ports, finance centers, etc, and others do not as much.

If you are serious on this thread, send a letter to your congressman, senator or even the President......I've not seen this economy in this serious condition in my life time...but you can bet most politicians are living in nice homes and communities...

Why are some people poor, while others prosper? The answers to both questions should be very similar.

States are poor because of lack of natural resources and an uneducated workforce coupled with a lack of industry. The poor states are in a catch 22 situation exacerbated by a lack of honest leadership.
Individuals are poor because:
When $hit becomes valuable,
Po folks will be born without a$$holes !

The economy.
West Virginia is based on coal production, which was good in the 19th and early 20th Century. Oil has now become the fuel in demand.
