Well, it is all relative. For example, cities like Atlanta and DC, have a large black middle class that lives in the suburban areas or in areas of the city that is middle class and well-to-do. For example, here in the Borough of Queens, blacks actually make more on average than whites. Areas in Southeast Queens like St. Albans, Jamaica Estates, or Cambria Heights, have a large black middle class population. So, it really depends on the city/metro.

A couple of small area's of Las Vegas are bad. The entire city is not bad, just some parts. I live in the far north part of the valley in North Las Vegas, and it's all new and nice. The crime rate is low. Yet people assume because it's the north part that it's bad. It's not.

Thats very correct. Murder rates, and really crime rates overall, in rural areas are very low. With a population so low, even a few crimes would seem like it has a high crime rate, but most rural areas never do. Those things that happened in those movies you mentioned, were made into movies for a reason, because they were horrible and very rare. That should say it all right there.

Im going to have to interrupt and say that Joe Bama! is incorrect this time.

You have to understand this: Most of the areas that famous wealthy blacks live are in the uber high income areas. Crime is rare in wealthy areas, therefore, hate crimes will be nearly nonexistent. Most hate crimes occur among working class to lower income(and many times non-income) people.

As a black person, I may stand out living in an area like Laguna Hills,CA; being a mostly white, upper income area, but the chances of being the victim of a hate crime out there are not likely, as crime in general is lower.

Perhaps you should be complaining to the OP ATl/SEA who threw about a dozen cities under the bus. Atlanta is not immune from criticism, especially under these ^circumstances^.

Chicago for whatever reason usually gets a free pass from criticism concerning the ills of big city life and this is another thread that reinforces that notion. Its been mentioned but most people seem to overlook Chicagos problems, other cities dont get that benefit.

I can tell you why Chicago often gets the free pass. Chicago is seen as one of the "Great Cities". It is seen in the seem light as Paris. In many ways it has alot. Chicago just has alot and when you compare it to Atlanta, Atlanta looks very dull and sprawled out. The high crime issues just make it easier to vilify Atlanta because Atlanta doesn't have nearly as much as Chicago. It may have held the Summer Olympics in 1996, but Atlanta isn't seen as a "fun" city. Chicago is.

I agree with your point but I dont agree with the overall logic. Downtown Chicago makes up what (Im guessing here)2%-3% of the city of Chicago? Its a great downtown but that shouldnt mask the fact that Chicago has crime, poverty, educational problems on par with every other big city.
