J33, it's not that I think "everything revolves about New York".

It's that New York is the capital of the world for a reason. I'm not making our influence up. It's there.

It's that New York has long had the best and most famous skyline in the world. And as I said elsewhere in this forum, no matter how many Hong Kongs and Abu Dhabis they build in the 21st century, the Manhattan skyline will be THE world's and the people's skyline, always.

I love Chicago, and I think that individually it has better buildings than New York, but as a skyline it doesn't hold up. I also think Pittsburgh has an impressive skyline for a city of its size, and Minneapolis (good buildings there). Dallas doesn't really have much of a tall skyline and is hardly breathtaking, but opinions are personal and subjective.

To put them all together with New York and ask for the most beautiful and breathtaking skyline feels to me first like a bad joke and second like asking "what's the biggest city in America?", "why is Chicago called the "second city"?

There's a reason.

This isn't about Chicago at all, it is more about your attitude that it is a proven fact that new york has the 'most beautiful and breathtaking skyline' and that even asking the question is a 'bad joke'.

Although NYC, Philly, Chicago etc. have those grand impressive skylines, I've always liked Denver's...

Er, whoas that's a big picture. Sorry!

No offence to anyone but when thinking of NYC in general, I only have 4 letter words pop in my head, starting with: YAWN!!!!

Yes, it's one of the kind... Lots of culture... business capital of the world... blah... blah... blah... but it's still just a concrete/steel jungle on a landfill...

And the reason why it's YAWN is simple, the skyline is so widely known (and shown) around the World that once you see it in person there's nothing breathtaking about it! Sorry, but it's boring. Breathtaking to me must include some mountains or other natural features, or at least something unexpected. NYC skyline looks like something you draw when you 8 years old and your Mom gives you a piece of paper and pencil to keep you occupied... Chicago ain't far behind.

My DD is in NYC construction and while a lot of cities do manage to put up some big buildings, NYC has better ground to build on - literally the easy access to bedrock in NYC is what makes it capable of sustaining those huge buildings. To try to build those same buildings in AZ would be difficult because when a skyscraper goes up, it begins with digging till you hit bedrock. In NYC the bedrock is at surface or close to it while in other cities such as Shanghai (which was built on a swamp) and Mexico city (sinking 9 cm/yr) sinking is taking place due to the excessive weight of the buildings!

Other cities are cute and everything, but NYC has almost 80 buildings 500 feet and taller. Other cities skylines would hardly be seen if their buildings were in NYC.

I can assure you, these buildings were NOT built on a landfill...

Geez, dude... no offense but you live in UTAH!!

Now, I love the Great Salt Lake and the desert and the mountains in Utah, but talk about one big YAWN there.

Mormons and meth make for a good mixture of excitement and lawlessness... I take my boring Manhattan skyline any day- after many years, it still makes smile and say "wow". It gives me happiness.

No offense, of course.

Loser_user: I agree. Denver is impressive without having many tall buildings.

I agree. NYC has no amazing architecture or breathtaking scenery. It's a concrete jungle with tall buildings, nothing that makes you take a second look. Here's a view of the NYC skyline:

Nothing that impresses me. Now the Denver skyline is breathtaking, the mountains really set it off.

ArrowThruTheMoon, your comments are an insult to the citizens of Chicago and NYC, who pride themselves in the fact that our two cities have the best skylines in the nation. Perhaps you should copy and paste the link I supplied in my last post. If you think an 8 year old can dream or imagine buildings like that, well then, that must be one helluva 8 year old! To say NYC and Chicago's skylines are "boring" is quite hilarious.

Oh good grief!!!!!!!!! I cant believe people from pukish PHX and SLC dare even open their mouths about NYC and its awesome skyline. There is more history and culture and architecture on one block in NYC than UT or AZ will EVER have. I guess people dont understand good architecture when they see it? Sure beats that over-redundant stucco junk that the SW states abuse. YUCK.

Oh yeah, were talking about SKYLINES, not natural scenery here. If that was the case, Denver and Albuquerque have the best surrounding scenery.
