Oh good grief!!!!!!!!! I cant believe people from pukish PHX and SLC dare even open their mouths about NYC and its awesome skyline. There is more history and culture and architecture on one block in NYC than UT or AZ will EVER have. I guess people dont understand good architecture when they see it? Sure beats that over-redundant stucco junk that the SW states abuse. YUCK.

We're all entitled to our own opinion and that was mine. I see nothing that is overly impressive with the NYC skyline. It's one large concrete jungle with a bunch of buildings, no natural beauty.

We all have opinions, but that seems REALLY ODD to me that you think NYC is ugly and boring. If thats ugly and boring, PHX must be making you absolutely insane. LOL NYC is the most entertaining city in the states, and its architecure plays a big part of that. Also, next time you post a pic of NYC, try not to pick a "boring" part of the massive skyline. Why not show the Empire State Building or the Chrysler? Two of the most gorgeous architectural pieces (that and the Guggenheim) in the city...

a bit of new york attitude is needed...
"NYC has almost 80 buildings 500 feet and taller"
Tell me about Chicago, and Dallas, and the yawn from Utah and Hong Kong and the landfill.
80 damn buildings 500 feet and taller. You hear?
Now, don't mess with New York, dammit.
(Speedy: good photo, but the view of the Midtown skyline from New Jersey at night is even more gorgeous:

I never said it was ugly or boring, I said it wasn't overly impressive. And actually, I love Phoenix and it's small skyline. I didn't move here for huge buildings but rather for the natural beauty of the mountains and the landscape. There's nothing like a Phoenix sunset in summer, now that is breathtaking.

NYC has the most buildings 500 ft and taller, but we in Chicago still lay claim to the tallest buildings, and the most of them. Were also the only city in the USA with more than 1 building over 100 stories tall. There is another one under construction (Trump Tower) and a megatall (2000 ft! About 500 ft taller than the Sears Tower!) Chicago Spire that goes under construction this summer. Plus, dont forget, Chicago was the birthplace of the skyscraper and is still considered the city to have the best architecture.

(rolls eyes) ... ooo scary. While I find pissing matches between cities dull and quite frankly childish, I know that according to Emporis (a site the collects data on buildings), Chicago has 87 completed buildings over 500 feet tall. I think your data on New York may be incorrect, as, being that it is 3 times the size of Chicago, I'm certain they must have more buildings that that over 500 feet tall. However, a collection of tall buildings doesn't necessarily make an impressive skyline. Sao Paulo has loads of tall buildings, and lots more people than Chicago or New York (I've been there and seen the chaos first hand) but they all seem to look alike.
Now Honk Kong, in my opinion has a very impressive skyline.

While I have lived in many cities around the world (including London and NYC) I still think when we are talking "breathtaking skyline" no artificial architecture comes close to natural features, and the healthy mix is of the two is the best (like in Anchorage, San Francisco, SLC, Las Vegas and even Los Angeles).

New York and Chicago both have huge historic skylines. Two of the best in the world. The only advantage with these two is that New York's skyline is bigger. You just cant compare the two. It's just like comparing apples and oranges, ya' know?
My city's skyline has virtually been the same for 20 years. I'd love to see it pop up like yours.
The Phoenix skyline is just embarassing. The mountains aren't helping at all. There are more than a million people living in that city, but hey, population doesn't affect the size of a skyline. Phoenix, Ft. Worth, Miami, and Atlanta are all good examples of that.
But don't feel bad Phoenix. San Jose has more people than San Fransico...but that city has NO skyline what so ever!

Since someone bought it up, here is Albuquerque's measly skyline, though I don't want to get into another argument about it like I did on Albuquerque board...
Other skylines I like besides the big cities(NYC, Chicago, Philly) and my earlier Denver post are:
Cleveland:
Cincinnati:
Minneapolis:
LA:
I really guess I have no favorite...every city's skyline is unique in its own way in my opinion.
