I love skylines, so I can't just pick one.
Houston is great because it has "multiple downtowns". From certain areas it looks as big as New York.
Dallas is great because of it's architecture.
Seattle and Pittsburg are great because of their surroundings.
L.A. is great........when you can see it .
New York and Chicago are great because of their histories and sizes.
Vegas at night, Miami in the day by the ocean, Toronto, Boston, New Orleans, St. Louis, Minneapolis, San Fran...... they all have great skylines.
But if I could pick one, it would be Chi-town. The Sears Tower as the dominant tower, the skyline that sits right next to the lake, the mix of old and new buildings.......it's beautiful.
God I wish my town had a skyline like these cities.
I think the whole strip connecting downtown Houston to midtown and uptown might be around the same size as the Manhattan strip. Just, of course, with much less highrises. Not even half as much, actually.
i agree about the SF thing, but to me, NYC and Chicago shouldn't be in this poll because everyone knows they already have the largest skylines. it's a given that NYC is gonna win pretty much any north american poll
I don't think it has anything to do with the largest skylines. I voted for New York because it obviously has the most beautiful skyline. The largest skylines in America are New York, Chicago, and Houston, but the third one got beaten by Seattle, San Francisco, and...Pittsburgh .
(Personally, I think that this whole San Francisco thing all over this website is being driven into the ground)
My vote is for NYC. It is the capital of the world, and it is our show-case city.
Top 6 largest skylines FYI:
1) NYC (Manhattan)
2) Chicago (concentrated along lake)
3) Houston (Multiple skylines)
4) Honlulu
5) LA
6) Dallas (multiple skylines)

Well, wait now. People forget that Brooklyn also contributes a nice portion to New York's skyline. Queens as well. The problem is that the skyline spans over miles and isn't just in downtown. In fact, in some photos, the ESB isn't even pictured.
Now several cities might have multiple skylines, but the question is, are the extra skylines as imposing and distinctive as they are in New York and Houston? To me, having multiple skylines is having more than one collection of highrises that look like their own major center point.

los angeles is like that. we have downtown, century city, irvine, long beach, el segundo, burbank, and others. not many people know that
Every major city is like that. Our cities have become polycentric. If you count "skylines" in all of NYC and surrounding cities threre would be dozens. But cities such as Newark, Paterson, Hackensack, Jersey City, Fort Lee, Stamford, White Plains, Yonkers, Downtown Brooklyn, Long Island City, and the miles of endless highrise residential buildings in the outer boroughs, etc etc etc pale in comparison to Manhattan. To me the cluster of buildings in the Central Business District of a city is the "skyline." Blocks upon blocks of highrises of course exist all over urban areas, but the shots that make the postcards are the ones that matter in these types of comparisons.
The way the sun is shining on those pictures it looks like a city made of gold.
That would make an awesome wall mural.
It's ok. I have heard both good and bad about about Char. Please post some additional pics.
