Default Is Chicago's status as most dangerous big city outweighed by low cost of living?

So Chicago is the most murderous city of over 900,000. Is this huge negative outweighed by the fact that it's dirt cheap to live in?

If that's the case then Texas must be freezing cold!

I wonder what your source is. Since I don't know your source, I can't dispute what you say. I love Chicago and would live there without hesitation. I can't imagine why you think it's dirt cheap - not the case at all. In any city there is crime, and most crime happens in areas that anyone with a brain knows to avoid. To avoid a great city like Chicago for this would be ridiculous.

Chicago might be cheap compared to NYC and L.A., but dont kid yourself... most of Chicago is VERY expensive to live in, and naturally in the desireable areas. Crime is mostly restricted to the low income neighborhoods, sadly. You can avoid problem areas with no problem whatsoever. Chicago is a great city, especially if you can afford it and have LOTS of time to explore the city and alllllll that it has to offer. Also, winters can be downright frigid, so be prepared for that as well.
