Alot of people on the Imdb.com boards say "Everybody Hates Chris" shows a very unrealistic portrayal of the Big Apple because the middle school and high school that Chris attends are both majority White and that they do not know of any public schools in NYC that are not majority Black and Brown. And the people who said this on that board all claim to be New Yorkers themselves.
Yes, Staten Island has quite a few mostly White public schools. I'm not sure about other boroughs, but you could possibly find them there too. Check it out here(bororughs of NYC):https://www.nystart.gov/publicweb/County.do?year=2007&county=Richmond (broken link) (Staten Island)

I teach in NYC, so I've seen this first-hand. There are a few schools in eastern Queens that are predominantly white, as well as a few areas in Manhattan. Probably 2-3 areas in Brooklyn too. Staten Island I would bet has the biggest percentage of whites. But I don't think any school has higher than about 75% white. There's always going to be other ethnicities mixed in since kids get bussed in from other areas.
For the childrens sake i hope so! Although i drove through nyc and i hated it! why would you want to raise kids there.
It's a big city and not all areas are the same. So, there is plenty of variance within the 5 boroughs of NYC. Queens and Staten Island are probably the most family friendly out of the boroughs.

What about the parts of the Bronx close to Westchester County too? Would that include Riverdale?

You're basing an opinion on driving through?
I plan on moving to Long Island when I raise my future kids, but I'm not TOTALLY against raising kids in the city. I was raised in the city when I was a little kid, and that was back in the 80s when the city was at its worse. I turned out fine. There's pros and cons about raising your kids in nyc.

No...I did a demo lesson in a school on the border of Westchester/the Bronx. 95% of the school was hispanic. Most areas of Westchester that border the Bronx aren't the greatest areas. You wouldn't know you're in Westchester since most areas look like the Bronx. With the exception of a couple towns.
Riverdale (in the Bronx) is different. I'd say most of them are white.
Not many exist. About 99% of the schools in the Bronx and Uptown are Hispanic and black.
And for Brooklyn I'd say 75% while Queens is over 50% in "minorities."
These are arbirtary numbers based on my experiences on attending school in the Bronx, Queens and now Manhattan.
Staten Island has majority white schools.
