I will be moving to the US and was wondering how it works with transferring my british driving licence to a US one. Will I be given one years grace to obtain my US Licence but still allowed to drive around on British Licence during that year. That is how it works here when a US citizen moves to the UK.
It will all depend on which State you move to. They all have different requirements when moving into them, so it would be best to search directly for which state you are moving into. Some give you 30 days to switch everything over, others are far more lenient. I think it would also depend on your citizenship status and whether it is your permanent residence or temporary.
Bydand is right. Search online for the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) or Motor Vehicles Commission (MVC) in the state you're moving to. The requirements should be available for your review. Each state will have its own requirements.
Since the answer depends on the location, I'm going to close this thread. sjcassin can start a new thread in the state or local forum for his/her destination.
