I don't think that any of the 50 states will split, combine, or otherwise undergo major geographic changes. Peurto Rico is a possibility, but still a pretty distant one. I don't see any other significant possibilities out there.

A few years ago there was a petition circulating to split Southern IL from Northern IL...I signed it and everyone else I know did too,but I've never heard another word about it since then.I'd still be for it as I imagine a lot of folks from both ends of the state would be too.

I agree. I don't see any new states coming along. The historical trend in recent decades has been for larger countries to break up into smaller ones not the other way around.

That's wonderful. If they want statehood, and they pass a referendum according to procedure, then it should be granted to them. There would be logistical problems if they also wanted a team in the NBA, but we could cross that bridge when we come to it.
