easy enough...

will it be Puerto Rico?
will Texas break up into multiple states?
or California?

or will the UP of Michigan succeed from the hand?
or upper part of Georgia and Atlanta succeed from the southern part of Georgia?

Western Kansas has has a history of wanting to cede from eastern. You should wiki the history of the states of Jefferson (That should be a state in my vote ) and Franklin.

Some cities in S Florida have been talking about creating a different state out of Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe and Palm Beach counties.

Merge them with Puerto Rico into one state and make Spanish the official language.

Other than Puerto Rico, the U.S. also holds Guam, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Maybe some of these territories will apply for statehood.
