OK, this question had to be asked at some point. What states/areas do you consider to be "Midwestern?"

My list would include:

All of:
Michigan
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Iowa
Nebraska
South Dakota
North Dakota

Parts of:
Missouri
Indiana
Illinois
Ohio
Kansas

?

What parts of Illinois and Ohio aren't Midwestern?

If I had to pick, I'd say MI, OH, IN, IL, WI, IA, MN, and, to an extent, MO.

The ND/SD/NE/KS corridor is more "Great Plains" to me, though I guess that's "midwest" too.

OK, this is a bad poll, I should have made it multiple choice.

In my opinion, Southern Indiana, Southern Illinois, Southern Ohio, and Southern Missouri are all more Southern than Midwestern.

Well, I'll tell you right now... NO Southerner would ever claim those areas. I guess they're a sort of cultural no-mans-land.

These boundaries are completely nebulous, but if pressed, I'd, again, call those areas midwestern.

Tomato, to-mah-to.

Right...we don't want the castoffs of the Midwest.

Anyway, who cares what constitutes the Midwest???

Why can't we pick more than one?

I would consider most of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, and Ohio to be Midwestern. Southern Illinois, Southern Indiana, Southern OHio, and Southern Missouri are all kind of a no-man's land, as someone stated earlier.

Having lived in Southern Indiana; it is defintly midwest. It does have southern influences; but it is definitly midwestern. The cultural difference when you cross over to Kentucky is jarring.

Are you crazy? Southern Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio aren't the least bit Southern, compared to places like Kentucky and Virginia. They never were considered part of the South culturally, and the locals do not identify as such. Southern Missouri on the other hand, is a whole 'nother story.
