Alright, this is kind of a big though on my mind i've been trying to get off my shoulders. I am going to need some help on this one.
I am trying to decide which cities are urban in california. this is can get kind of hard since a city may seem urban, but could be a suburb or ex-urb.
I am guessing for california our urban cities are Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, Fresno, San Francisco, San Jose.

Atlantic City is in New Jersey; Atlanta is in Georgia.
And I'm really not sure how you're characterizing "urban" here; are you referring to central cities?
For Virginia, Norfolk is considered the traditional urban center of the Hampton Roads metro area, although Virginia Beach is the largest municipality in that area. You also left out Richmond. Actually you left a lot of cities out for the states you listed: Pittsburgh, Tampa, Orlando, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Buffalo, etc. And Maryland is "MD," Missouri is "MO," and Minnesota is "MN."

Don't understand the question. Which cities are urban? ALL cities are urban--that's by definition. Do you mean to find out the largest cities and/or metropolitan areas in each state? I realize I'm a Neanderthal here in the Age of the Internet, but I thought that's what atlases were for.
Another addition to the list: Newark, NJ.
