It's the same thing in Northern California. It's very, very hippy and liberal. But it has a lot of very redneck, hick parts. This whole country has these parts, every single state.

I would recommend Astoria, Queens or Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. I think you could find a good place to live (with roommates to cut cost if you wished) and a good job. Good jobs are fewer and harder to come by, but I think you can still do it, depending on your industry and if you are flexible and ready to work hard and give things a chance.
