I have social anxiety and don't want to move to an area that is expanding a lot and with lots of people.
Looking for: low cost, steady/no population growth
Thoughts are:
Mississippi
Wyoming
North Dakota
Alabama
Alaska
Anything desirable people flock to. Freaks me out having new development houses and people, rising prices.
The funny thing is that these "not desirable" places are very desirable to me. Want to have a little house and a bunch of acres where I dont see a neighbor and life is slow.
Well applied to law schools already in Deep South and Texas. Should be good.
North Dakota. I believe it's the only state that is actually experiencing a net loss in people. Some towns are completely "disappearing". It's perfect.
I kinda am in the same boat as you. I wanna move to a low cost place without alot of new development cause crime scares me. Also im not a party guy so I dont need all those "social events" One good state for you is WV, lots of tiny towns with under 1000 people
I want to find a place where you can do what you want. If there's no zoning and plenty of water and some resources I would go there. The dakotas seem to desert like for my taste. In fact I doubt I would want to be west of the Mississippi by more than one state. In fact I think a lot of people prefer space, they just can't live without big city 'amenities". Where I live there's nothing to do either except boat, fish and get drunk. Let's see, I got rid of the boat, don't drink and only fish from the mangroves. I have to drive to Homestead just to go bowling!
There are counties in North Dakota that are literally giving away pieces of land.
In Alaska, you pay 0 tax and actually get a share of oil profit or something

It gets terribly cold the further north you go. Ive visited Wyoming in the summer and it was snowing one morning! We were on the tour bus and all of us were looking out the window in amazement at the snow falling and the snow on the ground and that was in late June! The temperatures never felt warmer than about 70 and can get to the 40s at night. Very cold at high latitudes. Edit: wow I was reading a story of someone who went to Wyoming and he said it can snow all year round and that the summers can get as high as 80, but usually much cooler and the lows can dip down to 20!
