(For the purposes of this discussion, a region is one of these four areas in the US: Northeast, Midwest, South, and West plus Alaska and Hawaii.)

For the Northeast, I'll go with New York City. So much culture, history, and excitement concentrated in one small area. Truly unlike any other.

In the South, I like Atlanta. It's a great place to live, and embodies much of the New South in a lot of ways.

Out west, I'll pick Los Angeles. It has its issues and does get a lot of flack around these parts, but it really is a remarkable, fascinating town. Its climate and diversity isn't bad, and there's always something for everyone in LA.

And closer to home, Minneapolis is a good choice. Like Atlanta, it is a great place to live and their economy is doing quite well. It's also surprisingly vibrant, even in January.
