Why is this happening - particularly Anegelinos and SDers, but a fair numbers of people from the Bay Area too, especially to Austin and Houston. Why is this happening?

They come looking for cheap housing and cost of living.

Mainly
(1) It's cheap
(2) The neighborhood or area is different than when they grew up (ie, the culture and lifestyle has changed since they've lived or grew up there)

I'm from the Bay and have moved to the South, personally because
(1) it's cheap
(2) I wanted to travel to see what the other parts of the country are like

I will move when I graduate school, since I don't really like it here, but I'm glad I came to live here for the time-being.

Okay, you've obviously never been there. Ever heard of Austin? El Paso? San Antonio?

Plenty of entertainment (live music), great southwestern and spicy food, plenty of fun places, and plenty of cool places.

San Antonio riverwalk...

It doesn't really matter to me why they come here. I'm just glad they are coming here. It will be nice to see how things will change with all the new people coming here.

I dunno, Austin's considered pretty darn cool among many, and both Austin and Houston have a reasonable amount going on.

hopefully all the new Californians will bring more excitement to Houston. More people means more development (and I hope that development is in the inner loop)

Woah. at least California obviously doesn't have the sole claim to elitism.
