I must say that every time i visit the South, I find both the women & men (of seemingly middle class backgrounds) to be noticeably more well-groomed & prim & proper than their counterparts from other parts of the country. I live in the Pacific NW, and although most of the population is presentable enough, generally Southerners are much more well-groomed (women have more coiffed hair, men tend to dress more neatly, etc)- even the teenagers and youth in the South, although relatively homogenous in their Abercrombie wear, are less likely to be in "grunge" wear or skater alternative types, just interesting observations. What is with that? I am comparing Whites to Whites, I would think other races may also dress differently region from region due to weather?

I notice the opposite. Southerners are more likely to have long hair (bama bangs) and beards. Same goes for the Pacific Northwest. People in the Northeast tend to have neither. I sometimes get mistaken for a Southerner because I have bama bangs and don't shave regularly.

The southerners as a whole dress more laid-back and more classy than people up north. In the north you got all those tacky trends and weird designs (think M.I.A or Madonna in the 80s). I still can't believe people consider some of that stuff stylish.

Jerry Springer would tell you otherwise. Jk, I did notice while spending time in Arkansas the girls are somewhat dressier. I didn't notice the prim and proper thing; probably because I was around a bunch of drunk poeple...

People make decisions about facial hair and hair styles based on what they like, not where they live. Same goes for style of dress and formal vs casual. Come on, don't try to make it some regional thing when it truly is not.

I see many people dressed all kinds of ways every day - there is not truth to "Southerners are well-groomed." Some are, some aren't.

If Southerners are all well-groomed, then all Pacific Northwesterners look like hobos that haven't have a bath in the river in months.

What's the logic in this statement? Hmmmmmmmmmmm?

There are some well-groomed Southerners. Truth is, once you get outside of the major metropolitan areas, a large number (okay, most) of people look unkempt or just plain trashy.

I strangely noticed the exact opposite when I was in Louisana and Alabama. I'm sure it's totally different depending on where you are! I know even just in Chicago you have HUGE swings in what people wear and how "groomed" they are comparing people on the southwest side to the north side to the south side.

i use to go crazy about my apperence. but now i just walk out the door with my work suite on and comb my hair in the car. Its like as you get older and have kids and work all the time, you dont care as much as you did when you were young.

Only on occasions i am freshed out. but other then that, what do i care what the other bum thinks of me

but about the south part being well groomed.. i dont know where you were, but when i was in some northern florida town. there was a set of dirty barefooted twins runnin around the store.
