The South: The traitor states plus Kentucky, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Maryland, and Delaware. Also, Missouri below 70. And maybe some bits of southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and New Jersey. (70 could be a decent divider in those border states) Basically, if the mason-dixon kept going in either direction.

Some people in places like Indiana might not KNOW they live in the south but that is because people in the south are uneducated.

(italicized part is not serious)

Is there another civil war on the verge of happening or something?

Seems like a lot of hostility towards each other on this board.

I think we should create a North vs South civil war thread and just duke it out in there.

I agree! Where are all these threads coming from lately? I guess it's a little better than city-bashing, but only a little...

I hope not.

As you are right that there are many other forums/threads to discuss/debate the causes, etc of the War Between the States. I agree totally they should be taken there...

But at the same time, when someone uses such a term as "traitor" in reference to my native state/region and people, then I want to know exactly what they mean by it and why they do so and upon what criteria.

It was mostly Southern men who wrote the DOI and the Constitution...and Southern men/women who have always served disproportionately in our country's military. In both peace and war. So "traitor" is a very serious and slanderous word to apply...

I could be wrong, but I believe traitor states refers to civil war history and states that flipped. Actually, looking over the states again, I'm not sure if that's what the poster was referring to (Oklahoma..?)

You are right...I've no doubt which states were being referred to (the 11 Old Confederate States), only asking why they are being labeled so (traitor states). And upon what historical criteria.

Anyway, again, there are other forums/threads to debate all this...and should be. I agree this is not the one. But I won't be a shrinking violet when somebody makes a comment that is intentionally provocative for no other reason than just to be.

I personally consider all the states south of the mason Dixon (except Missouri, Delaware and Maryland) plus Oklahoma and Texas as South. Everything else is North.
