Oregon City is in Oregon, Idaho City is in Idaho, and California City is in California. That much seems rational, and I "get it". But Nevada City is in California, too....and Virginia City is in Nevada.....and Colorado City is in Arizona, and Washington County is in Utah, AND in Oregon, too.....It boggles the mind, it's just not fair, and it really upsets me. Sorry, I just HAD to 'vent'.....it's a CONSPIRACY......

Wilmington, California was named for Wilmington, Delaware. One is full of chemical plants and refineries, while the other is full of refineries and chemical plants...
If I remember my history correctly, the city of Portland, OR got its name in a draw from settlers wanting to name it for either Portland, ME or Boston, MA. It could have as easily been known as Boston, Oregon.
In my hometown of Atlanta, there is the Virginia Highlands neighborhood (named for the intersection of two streets actually) and another neighborhood named Pittsburg (pretty sure no H on the end).
As far as responding to the exact question posed... We have the Hollywood District in Portland, but I'm not sure where the name comes from. Also the Santa Clara district of Eugene. To get away from the exact question a bit... We also have the Mississippi District and Alberta District in Portland. There are also the cities of Milwaukie (named after original spelling of Milwaukee, WI), Dallas (TX), Salem (MA), Newport (RI), Medford (MA), Ashland (KY), and Ontario in Oregon... I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting!
While many communities across the country can trace their names to points back east as settlers would name new communities after ones they came from (as sighted by backdrifter) we have to remember how many of the towns back east have origins in Europe for the same reasons -- Immigrants moving westward and naming towns and cities for their homeland. New York, Boston, Hartford, Albany, Portland, Newport, Trenton, Dover, Washington, Charleston, Wilmington, Norfolk, Hampton, Richmond, etc, are place names that can all be traced back to the British Isles.
