A lot of the yellow street signs directly indicating the 'El', simply say "L"(w/o quotes of course).

I drive 20 miles each way, by myself. I tried carpooling, but the person I was carpooling with was driving me nuts (annoying personal habits, running late, etc).

was living in Chicago and I walked to work (edge of south loop to the loop)... now in school elsewhere so I drive. Can't wait to go back to not needing a car to get anywhere, and getting rid of it altogether.

interesting. I never ever even saw such a sign... that's weird. Do I live in a parallel universe? how weird. I lived right under the tracks my whole life, and I still live under the tracks. never did I see any sign that said L or el.

Are you trying to tell me that you've lived in Chicago your whole life and you don't know what the 'el' is? Really, is that what you are trying to tell us?
