It's wasted real estate. There could be condos on those hills. Condos, bistros and some holes dug in the hills for artists' colonies.

Just my two cents

New York is not New England, for starters.

Yeah it does look like somewhere out west, the only reason I thought it might be on the east coast is the b/c of the forest and the way it looks. It's a deciduous forest and lot denser and more lush than western coniferous forests; the type of trees kind of give it away for me. Great pic btw, you don't see too many pics like that of NY state.

1. California(Has everything except a tropical feeling)-i have to go to Hawaii for that Feeling but only in winter can't handle tropical weather in summer.
2. Ny or Tx(Close call can't decide)
3. Oregon or Washington( Another tough one for me)-These states have everything in common.Mtns,Lakes,1 Big city in each state,Beaches,Rains there a lot,,cascades ranges,Earthquake danger zones.

It does look western and it is. Western NY! lol

Actually I never heard of Letchworth Gorge until a year or so ago when I was on some website about waterfalls. That river has SIX decent waterfalls - 3 of them in the city of Rochester.

I believe you said "It just all seems the same to me. dull and depressing atmosphere". Where have you been in WA?

The only place I've been to is Tacoma with my dad. However, this was about 10 years ago.

Tacoma probably was one of the most economically depressed cities in this state a decade ago. Also, it's one of the only cities in this state afflicted with gritty urban blight. Possibly your dad was stationed at Ft. Lewis, which is a sketchy area of the Seattle metro. Seattle is waaaaay different than Tacoma.

It does boast a large Asian population, but that's it. Your thinking only of landscape, but its more than just that. TX has a mini Spain (San Antonio). A little bit of New Orleans (Galveston), Mexico (South Texas), West,TX is known for it's Czech descents and has cool little stores and a themed Czech hotel, you've got small historic towns which offer different types of atmospheres and activities, etc.

You just won't get these things in WA.
It's asking which state has the "most cultures?? Scroll to the top of the page and read the title of this thread. "Places" and "cultures" are 2 very different things! The OP asked about the former, not the latter.
