South Dakota:

"Four Winds" by Bright Eyes
Now it's off to Old Dakota where a genocide sleeps in the Black Hills, the Badlands, the calloused east...

"Highway 16" by Haley Bonar is about escaping life in Rapid City.

Just about every country singer did "Tennessee Stud" which was written by Jimmy Driftwood, who also wrote Battle of New Orleans.

Patti Page had a number-one hit with "Tennessee Waltz"
