Well, we're actually up to Louisiana. People just kind of backtracked and added a few more Georgia songs after the fact.

Louisiana: If it just has to make refrence to the state, not have the state in its title . . . try Amos Moses. "Weeehll, I wonder where the Loosiana sheriff got to. You can sho'r get lost in a Loosiana bayou!"

And Louisiana by Randy Newman. Beautiful song.
And don't forget The Devil Went Down to Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band.

Maryland was hard to find. Vonda Shepared (Aly McBeal fame) did a song "Maryland":

Backtracking to Louisiana, remember Jimmy Dean's "Big Bad John" ? His "big right hand, sent a Looziana feller to the promised land".

MASSACHUSETTS ???

Probably "Hail, Minnesota" which is the state song. Written by two college students around 1905.

"Summer Song" by Atmosphere makes many references to Minneapolis.
Lyric: She came back to vist she says, but in some ways Minneapolis is more real than LA.

"Say Shh" by Atmosphere makes reference to many Minnesota cities and other midwestern towns. Atmosphere is a rap group from the Twin Cities.

Bob Dylan recorded "Walls of Red Wing" about a reform school in the town of Red Wing Minnesota. A little known fact is that he actually spent two months there, serving time for breaking and entering. He wrote about that song a few years later when attempting to secure a long term recording contract with Columbia Records.

He also went to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities but hardly ever went to class.
