Aside from the "Official State Song", do any of those actually mention Minnesota? (Every state probably has some turkey of a "state song")

There is an absolutely atrocious version of a song called "Minnesota Girl", apparently by a group called Green Day---it sounds like the recording used dixie-cups and strings to mix the audio. Search Youtube for it, you will get many clips of it, each one sounds as bad as the next. Like it was played over the phone, and recorded onto a warped disc using a mike across the room from the speakerphone.

Uh... yeah. Didn't I say that those songs were about Minnesota and Minneapolis? "Say Shh" lists several Minnesota cities over and over.

It doesn't count if it doesn't say the word "Minnesota"---no matter how many times it says Albert Lea or Pipestone or Thief River Falls.

Black Velvet is one of my favorite songs of all time!

Another great song that uses the word Mississippi is "Black Water" by the Doobie Brothers.

"Old black water, keep on rollin
Mississippi moon, wont you keep on shinin on me
"

The song is clearly about the river and not the state, but I don't know if that matters. It's still a great tune.

This one is definitely about the state of MS.

Mississippi Murderer from the Amboy Dukes circa 1968.
