NYC as a whole had 523. An increase from last years 496.

I would've never guessed that Louisville had that many killings!!! I'm completely surprised. More than Milwaukee...WOW!!

Seems to me that alot of smaller cities and suburbs are setting homicide records, while the bigger cities seem to be setting all time lows.

Staten Island, NY had more homicides this year than it did during the NYC crack wars!

I believe Portland, Oregon finished the year with 24 murders for a population of 580,000, resulting in a rate of 4.14 per 100,000. Quite good by American standards, but not good by the standards of cities in other developed countries.

Newark, NJ had 67 murders in 2008.. this is really good compared to 2007's 105 murder count.
the population is about 280,000

but i still wouldnt think its too good at all.
