From Chicago and Grand Rapids ... you're never leaving the Midwest, the tractor beam is too strong. If you are going to move, make sure the hand of fate steers you towards Ann Arbor or Madison, and not Flint or Moline!

I hate Michigan, lol. It's the most homogenous state I've been to outside of Iowa. I can't wait to leave.

I'm originally from Chicago, IL and he's from Grand Rapids, MI currently we both reside in Michigan. I miss big city life and he's looking for something larger than GR but smaller than Chicago.

Being a part of an inter-racial couple has been hard both living in Chicago which is extremely segregated and GR which has close to no Black/Latino residents.

Where is a city that is used to seeing inter racial couples? Where we won't get stares of hatred, rude comments, etc at just walking down the street holding hands engrossed in one another?

Does anywhere like this exist even?!

We're young. 21 and 23 respectively and we like to be out and about. We're not into the club/bar/rowdy scene. I'm a yuppie and he's a bit of a loner/artist type (oh yeah, somewhere where he can play hockey and I can buy arroz con gaundules and fried chicken a huge plus! lol)

We've no kids and all the time in the world. We're open to moving almost anywhere in the States. We've had some bad experiences visiting southern States though, so probably nowhere down south.

Please help us find somewhere to call home.

Naya
Gosh, call me naive but I didn't think this type of prejudice even exist anymore! Inter-racial couples is NOT a rare thing here in Northeast.
I think you might be happiest in North Jersey,NYC OR Philadelphia.
p.s. We love arroz con gaundules!
I will come back to you with more specific towns!

lots of prejudice against us here in Philly, in Boston, in many cities. we had a cross burning in south philly last year against an IR couple. you have to look at locall newspapers, as it covers alot more than the national news does

also check out hatewatch, www.splc.org they monitor hate groups and crimes and publish the crimes on their newsletter.

New Jersey, Indiana, metro new york, Pennsylvania, are pretty big on the list of activities

Try Brooklyn or Queens NY. Especially Jamaica or Jamaica Estates (zip code 11432) where whites live side by side with Haitians, Dominicans and asians. It is a very mixed area with all types of people. Being part of NYC there is always a subway close by and every culture that you can imagine nearby.

LOL. I love them as well! I just had to learn to prepare it myself as there's no place to buy it here in Grand Rapids.

Please give me more ideas, thanks!

They live side by side which is great! Especially as i'm of Haitian and Dominican decent...however, lol...aren't those bad areas? Are they diverse simply because they are all poor and can't afford to live anywhere else other than that neighborhood? I don't want to live in the ghetto, lool. Been there and done that.
