Wal-Mart Marketside (only in the Phoenix area. Wal-Mart, nonetheless)
We have exactly the same (all of the above) in Tucson, except Whole Foods bought out Wild Oats.

We also have Sunflower Market.

Portland metro...

Regional:
Albertson's
Safeway
Fred Meyer
QFC
Market of Choice
Probably a few other smaller ones I'm missing.

National:
Trader Joe's
Whole Foods
Costco

Freddy's and Safeway are ALL OVER the place. They're pretty much it.

Oh, I guess there are a few Wal-Mart Supercenters in Vancouver... I forget that they're part of the metro area.

Very surprising indeed since the neighboring state of Mississippi is not surprisingly loaded with TONS of them. I'm sure they have to be numerous in Louisiana at least if they aren't in Alexandria.
I've lived in Shreveport most of my life and never has been a Winn-Dixie here. Some of the past chains which are either no longer in business or moved out are A&P, Safeway, Weingartens, and Piggly Wiggly. Oh yes, Food Lion was here for a while. I liked them, but the meat thing that happened caused their demise.

A lot of the chains in the South found east of the Mississippi River are not west of it. That is the South's great dividing line for many retail businesses, actually more in the past than now.

I don't think Tucson has Marketside or Fresh and Easy yet. I am sure in a couple of years the city will have both.

Stop N Shop is the most popular. There's also Shaw's, Market Basket, Hannaford, and Whole Foods.

I like Stop and Shop the best in metro NY. The other supermarkets around here are nearly double the price. I obsess over saving lol.
