I love Wegman's. I used to go into the one in downtown Williamsport all the time!

Actually, that isn't true, because Wal-Mart has begun opening up neighborhood grocery stores.

But, as far as the other chains here in Birmingham:

Publix
Bruno's
Food World
Southern Family
Piggly Wiggly
Western
Wal-Mart

York, Pa.

Giant (not the same as the DC area chain, but owned by the same company, Ahold)

Weis (As mentioned above, a Sunbury, Pa. Based Chain that serves the majority of Pa and some in MD).

Wegman's-While not in the immediate York vicinity, there is one located in the Harrisburg area, and one in Hunt Valley, MD, about a half-hour drive.

Sav-A-Lot..Just one location

An IGA..1 store

Food Lion..this store at one time had 3 or 4 locations around the area, but they are down to one now.

When I lived here before we had Pathmark (based in NJ) and a local chain called Jay's which had a diner in each location. Pathmark has since closed it's York location and Jay's went out of business. There was also another popular local store called "County Market", but that also went under.

Now, the two dominant stores are Giant and Weis.

Addemdum: Thanks, Dan..I forgot to mention Aldi.

Northern NJ, the biggies:

Shop Rite
A&P
Stop N Shop
Pathmark
Acme

To a lesser extent:

Wegman's
Weis

There is only 1 Walmart Supercenter in NJ - which is way down South. There are no Super Targets either, and I'd like to keep it that way.
