In some areas there are IGA's and Slone's
We have Aldi's too.

For the Atlanta Area most people I know shop at Publix or Kroger and a few at Whole Foods but I find that to be overpriced and a bit pretenious

Piggly Wiggly has to be the worst name I have ever heard for a place to buy food. What were they thinking It makes me think of grease and oil over all the food.

Stop & Shop and Shaw's are probably the two biggest grocery chains in the Boston area. Other than that, there are some smaller ones like Roche Brothers. We used to have Star Market until it was bought out by Shaw's. I also remember when Ro-Jack's was still in business.

In DFW we have:

Albertson's
Kroger
Tom Thumb
Whole Foods
Brookshire's
Fiesta
Minyard's
Carnival
Sack-N-Save

We used to have Jewel/Osco. I liked those stores.

Gone and to be forgotten:

Winn Dixie-Bakery was nasty and cakes tasted like chemicals

Food Lion-They would repackage spoiled MEAT and resale it. Undercover news reporters caught them doing this on camera. I remember the CEO actually made a commercial apologizing for the happening.

Affiliated-Just nasty and low grade store in general.

The truly regional stores exclusive to Chicagoland are:

Butera
Tony's
Rio Valley
Sunset Foods
Ca****'s
Happy Foods
Super Low

Jewel sold out to Albertson's but retained the name of Jewel. Dominick's sold out to Safeway, but retained their name. The others like Cosco, Walmart, Aldi, etc. are national chains or in the case of Walmart and Aldi, national chains. Aldi is a German owned company. Walmart is now global. The largest Walmart I've ever been to was in Mexico. It made the ones here look like a general store. Amazing.
