We are Aussies (partner lived in New York for 10 years many years ago) and we, as a family, want to move to a small town in Connecticut.
We don't know anything about how to go about this, what the requirements are, what we would need in the way of permits and stuff and even if we would be allowed to.
We actually want to make this a permanent move. Does anyone out there have any advice or knowledge on how to do this.
Cheers.

I'd first suggest that it would almost impossible unless you have something to offer the work force that would satisfy the granting of a work visa. Such as forced labor as a replacement for lost Mexican labor. Unless of course, you're independently wealthy and want to live here to spend the cash or to start a business.

As an option, you might consider migrating to Canada and quietly and politely inserting yourself into a U.S. presence.

As best I understand, it just isn't easy to migrate to the U.S. The sooner you start the paper work the better. Watch for the allowance of H1-B visas to work here.

Sorry no one else has responded.
