Route 80. Just because it's close to me and I use it sometimes.
I bet U.S. 6 would be an interesting drive. I've been on portions of it in NY and PA, and it's gorgeous. Definitely not the fastest way to traverse the country, though.

I don't blame you - Interstate 80 is the road away from NYC and NJ through the Delaware Water Gap into the Poconos! The Gap is almost like a giant gate you cross that says leave your worries behind for a while.
There is actually some kind of PA group that promotes Route 6 and maps it out along along the entire state of Pennsylvania. I only drove on it in Pike and Wayne Counties but what little I saw was pretty nice. Hawley is a nice small town.
Although I like Interstate 80 in the east - especially in Pennsylvania, I actually chose Interstate 90. Just going by maps - it crosses the Rockies in Idaho and Montana and then skirts the Black Hills in South Dakota. Must be beautiful.
I would love to have a long vacation someday and take a road trip out there!
I like the 10 b/c of the desert drive- it goes from the bleakness of mid texas to N.M. to Arizona, and then to San Diego.
I-10 doesn't go to San Diego.
