Are the Carolina's as great as you expected? I'm reading alot about people moving there from all over the states. Are you same people finding JOBS easily? Is the weather really great? What are the downsides in moving there from up north? I would love for everyone to share thier views! THANKS

I moved from South Carolina to North Carolina because there are far fewer job opportunities in SC. I like both states; rural NC and rural SC are very similar, however, NC's urban centers are very different.

I would think a transplant would feel most at home in Charlotte or Raleigh. Those areas are far less "southern", culturally speaking.

I moved here a month and a half ago and I love it. Weather is great, people are nice but I can't answer the job question. I guess that's going to depend on what type of work you want.

So far the only downside I can see is getting use to bigger bugs (and more of them) because I'm really afraid of bugs. I set up a yearly plan with an exterminator and he said that I shouldn't get any in the house with the plan. If you go to any place with a warmer climate you will see more bugs.

NC is far more urbanized than SC, and definitely has more of a "northern" feel to it, I guess youd say. Charlotte is a decent city, I enjoyed it! From what Ive read, NC has alot more jobs than SC, Id imagine that would be true for many reasons.

Downsides in moving from NJ to NC? Food. Youll miss the food something terrible. LOL Summers are brutal. Its basically non-stop humidity all summer.

First I am from WV and moved to Atlanta Ga about thirty years ago.
My father had die and I was ready to leave a very small town, like one red light. I found a job very easy and I never had a problem finding one.
When I got married I moved outside of 285 belt, about one hour north of the city. I loved living in Ga. It seem like each person was from somewhere else than Ga. People were very friendly. I love the night life and just being in a bigger city.......... Now I am living in SC, Belton area. I love it here too.
The people here are so nice, you will come to a four way stop sign and you will have people wave at you. I love the weather here, not much snow.
I can go to the Mountain or the beach in a very short time. Now My family is moving to the Charleston Area. Not to sure about it, but will make the best of it. This is where my husband could find work, he is a horticulist. So the coast is where a lot of the growing nursery are at. My boys and I are looking forward to the move in one way. We love reptile a lot. I want to check out the Old South House and some of the Island. So, you can see I LOVE The SOUTH and South Carolina too.................
Dee

Recently moved from New York and am very happy to be down here. The weather is milder, for example, NY-25 degrees, versus Charlotte area 59 degrees. I prefer the latter. Prices are much lower than New York, people are much friendlier, life is less stressfull and personally think that there are lots of companies moving into the area looking for qualified people to fill the necessary positions. The rapid rate of growth to the area is in part due to the vast opportunity in real estate, the lower cost of living, the beauty of the scenery, and the laws of suppy and demand. Like everything else, eventually it will reach a levelling off or an overcrowding time, but till that time comes, I am very glad to be here. Good Luck!

Hi, I am also from New Jersey, thinking of moving to Carolina's. From research,Charlotte would be a great place to work. And you can live 20 minutes outside of Charlotte in many great areas, especially for your children.
Check out York county,(Southcarolina)they have many great schools and safe low crime neighborhoods.Home prices are very affordable and taxes are low...my family has been there 2 years and they love it!

IMHO summers are excellent in central NC.

Afternoons are often 85-95 F, moderate humidity (like 30-60%), light winds and fairly consistant sunshine. Just after dark, like at 9-10 pm it is usually still 75 F and somewhat damp; so it's still warm enough for shorts.

You shouldn't need a sweater on a summer night unless a wacky cold front pushes through.
