For its size, Raleigh and the Triangle area isn't too shabby. Two Tier 1 schools(Duke/UNC) and a tier 2 school (NCSU).

I'd say it is close between Boston and NYC. Philly, Chicago, Washington DC, the San Fran Bay Area and LA has some good ones too. Some other cities that might be up there are:New Haven, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Baltimore, Houston and the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

I may have missed one, but according to U.S. News the ranked universities in such cities are:

Boston: Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Brandeis, Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern

New York: Columbia, NYU, Yeshiva, Fordham

Philadelphia: Penn, Drexel

Pittsburgh: Carnegie-Mellon, Pitt, Duquesne

Atlanta: Emory, Georgia Institute of Tech.,

Chicago: U. of Chicago, Northwestern, Illinois Inst. of Tech., Loyola

Los Angeles: CIT, UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, UC-Riverside

San Francisco: Stanford, Berkeley, U. of SF

Washington DC: Georgetown, George Washington, American U., Howard, Catholic U.

Note to OP: How could you miss Pittsburgh on that poll?

Boston tops all cities in my opinion, then followed by NYC.

Baltimore has Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Morgan St. and Towson st., among others

Nashville has Vanderbilt, Tennessee State and Meharry College of Medicine

New Haven has Yale and in nearby Hamden Quinnipiac, which has a good Law school and performs many polls.
