I understand Miami but Los Angeles? it's got a lot of theme parks and why would you have your kids out on the streets at night?

There is a lot more than that: Disney World has 4 parks and two water parks. SeaWorld has a park, water park, and Discovery Cove. Universal has two parks. There are endless lists of dinner theaters, minigolf, "real" golf, beautiful resorts, attractions, shopping, etc. Outside the city there are countless beautiful beaches, the space coast, swamp tours, Weeki Wachee, Busch Gardens, historic towns like St Augustine and Key West, etc. I really believe it is America's amusement park.

However I think there are a lot of other places you would go to have different types of fun:

Big City Nightlife/Adult Fun: Las Vegas, Miami.
Big City Feel: New York, Chicago, LA.
History: Savannah, Charleston, DC, Philadelphia.
Culture: San Francisco, NYC, Seattle, Chicago, LA.
