Once you're outside of Queens, yeah.

Well obviously downtown and the near north of Chicago are packed with people. They're all pretty much "on a mission" though, be it work, shopping or school.

As far as people just living their lives, I think Lincoln Park and Lakeview in Chicago have a lot of street life. Lakeview especially, there are people out on the streets everywhere at all hours. Rush hour gets pretty annoying many days on the main streets with people clogging the streets around train stations.

Long Island is way more populous than the Santa Fae area. You really think it's rural compared to Santa Fae? Without Queens and Brooklyn, Long Island is about 90 miles. In about a 15 mile stretch of Nassau county, there are 2+ million people. Most friends of mine from out of state think part of Long Island is NYC.

Yep, that's real rural looking to me...

You're probably thinking of the wine country on the east end. But you have to go 80 miles outside of the city to finally reach the farms. Even there it's turning into sprawl.

The question is concerning street life in particular neighborhoods of a city, not entire cities - which we all know there are busy/active sections of every city as well as dead/inactive sections of every city.

Even though the above post claims every U.S. region has cities with street life EXCEPT the South, I will go out on a limb and say that every sizeable city in the U.S. has at least one neighborhood where the sidewalks are busy. Even if they don't have the very best street life in the nation, they are still lively, busy neighborhoods.

There are several Atlanta neighborhoods with a busy street life and lively crowds...the photos are of Midtown, Downtown, Virginia-Highland, Atlantic Station, and Cabbagetown.

Glad to see you make the "on a mission" distinction. It's important to note the difference.

So you would say Atlanta doesn't qualify?

That's cool and all. I'm not disparaging Long Island. I'm just saying that LI doesn't satisfy the requirements of my topic on street life. Look back at the post that started the thread. I'm looking for areas that most resemble the street ambience of the European or Latin American experience.

DEACONJ:

Excellent photos, thanks for putting those up.

Coincentally, your timing is excellent: I am in the process of interviewing with a company in Atlanta. Hopefully I will be able to visit soon.
