aside from nyc (which has a lot of every culture in it), what city or even smaller town in the northeast, midwest or northwest has a high number of southern transplants...if possible please give a specific area/neighborhood of the town with alot of southerners...thanks
Youngstown and Detroit have a lot of southern transplants. The ones near me are mostly from WV, AL and Kentucky. Of course they aren't recent transplants many folks from down south came up here to work in the steel mills and auto plants back in the 60s and 70s.
Any city with a large Black population in the North considering most came by way of the Great Migration. Many Midwestern cities like Detroit, any major city in Ohio, Indiana and Illinois, got their share of White Southerners too.
^Very true. There are lot of black folks around here with a southern accent. I used to work for an automotive supplier and some of my older coworkers had come up from the south to work in the steel mills in Youngstown. Once the mills closed many of them ended up in the automotive industry.
A largely unknown migration happened in the 20th Century from the Mtns of NC to W. Washington and Oregon. Inhabitants of the Skagit Valley of Wash. State are called "Tarheels".

Interesting....I've never heard of that before. You really do learn something new everyday.

Yeah, for instance, my parents are originally from Mississippi and South Carolina. Most of the Black people in my area have roots in Central Florida, Southeastern Alabama, Central and Eastern Georgia and the Eastern portion of South Carolina.
Maybe it's just the circles I run in, but I have met literally hundreds of former southerners in Chicago.
There's not a specific neighborhood where Southerners congregate, (although there used to be a big Appalachian population in Uptown) because it's not as if we're talking about an ethnic enclave. Still, there are restaurants and bars that are certainly Southern in flavor, and you can find bluegrass bands and stage shows around the city that are southern-fried.
I know that's the case with NYC, as well, and am sure that's probably true of most decent-sized cities.
