True, sometimes I forget the LIE is really called Interstate 495, since it's known by everyone as "The LIE"
Most people go 80 too. I've driven across South Dakota going 85-90 before.
It's so vast and barren that cops seem to turn a blind eye.
Around here our speed limits are 65 as I've stated before. They will nail you on I-39 if your traveling any faster then 70. 90 and 94 are a little more fast paced.
Many people dont know that I-690 has a stop light for 12 days out of the year. to allow for buses to take people to the NY State Fair
Correct and the traffic for the State Fair is no joke. Also, I-481 becomes Route 481 when it passes Route 31 in the Northern suburbs of Syracuse. Then, it has stop lights as it goes through the city of Fulton.
We also have Route 695 in the Western suburbs that connects 690 with Route 5, which opens up in the Fairmount/Camillus area.

That's something that seems to be unique to NYC and vicinity, that expressways are more well known by their names rather than their route numbers. I couldn't tell you the interstate numbers for the Bruckner, the Gowanus, the Whitestone, the Sheridan Expressways. I only hear them called by their names.
But cross into New Jersey and everyone calls them by their numbers. I didn't know til recently that Interstate 80 is the Bergen-Passaic Expressway. We just call it "Route 80." The exception is the NJ Turnpike. I bet many lifelong NJ residents don't know that much of the Turnpike is also Interstate 95.
Back to this township thing, in my home state of Pennsylvania, it's like as described below. I think townships in PA are meant to be for rural areas, but around Pittsburgh there are some large townships.
Here in CO, we have cities and towns, and unincorporated areas of the counties.

I get the feeling that townships are different in the Midwest than in NJ. Here in NJ they're not that much different from any other municipality. I lived in a township once (Montclair) and it looked, felt and was governed not much differently than a city or a borough. But I sense that in the Midwest they're more like semi-incorporated places?
Re: roads-Colorado has two major interstates, I-70 going East/west, and I-25 going N/S. We also have I-76 going E/W from the Nebraska state line to the west Denver suburbs. We also have some interstate spurs, such as I-270, and a partial beltway around Denver (E-470 and C-470), plus the Northwest Parkway to the airport from the NW (duh), an interstate-like toll road. Speed limiits on most of the interstate system outside of Denver is 75; a little lower (I don't remember now what) through the mountains, and 55-65 through Denver.
We also have US highways, state roads, county roads and of course, city streets. Speed limits on most highway-type roads are fairly high, e.g. 65 ish. Many county roads out on the eastern plains are dirt.
I live in the Chicago area our expressways are constantly clogged
most of the time its a chokehold from point a to b
there is that exception of the tri-state most times i can get thru that area with little frustration except during construction season and rush hours which can be bad at times.
south of the area on i 80 it is pretty good for now but it will need an extra lane in each direction in the near near future
basically the chicago expressways forget it- unless your on them at non peak hours then its smooth sailing
as far as the maintenance of the express routes no major complaints in my dept. I am sure others would disagree
