ohio's schools are unconstitutional in funding. cincinnati and cleveland have horrible districts. cincinnati luckily passed a levy in march to help chip away on that 74 million dollar deficit, and cleveland was the first city to take control away from a school board and pass it to the mayor's office.

Atlanta used to have a High School (Carver) with the lowest test scores in the country. Not sure where it stands now though. Clayton County GA schools are also doing bad (Lost accreditation last year) and have people leaving left and right.

I teach 1st grade in the south Bronx. Most people would quit after a day if they saw what my school was like. There were 150 incident reports of students attacking teachers, just from Sept-Dec. Teachers being sent to the hospital because the student attacks (stabbing teachers with pencils, throwing books around the room). Luckily I don't have issues like that. Haven't been attacked in the 2 years I've been there. I have a 6 year old in a gang, my students steal all the time, I've had death threats from one kid, a few kids have tried killing themselves...not a very happy place to be at times, I must say. Not a clean place to be either. Dead rats in our classroom bathroom, we had a roach problem last year with hundreds of them in the classrooms.

But it's really rewarding in the end. It's nice being the mother that most of these kids don't seem to have. The smallest things you do for them mean a lot.
