That's good to hear. Maybe they are "politically correct" gang members that don't wish to offend?

New York made a major 180 in the 90s when Bratton was a comish in NY.

Bratton later on was hired by LAPD to make similar progress in LA.

Effect? LA and NY are much safer than Chicago according to FBI data.

Just to believe that densely populated, close to border LA and NY being an international port with every mafia/gang outift present to make a quic buck has better crime stats then middle of nowhere (easy to contain) Chicago is mind boggling. William Bratton is my hero!

Yes, it is pretty sick. And when Chicago knocked down all their projects, those gangsters and section 8 types moved to the south burbs. So suburbs like Harvey, Chicago Heights, Ford Heights, Markham, etc. are gang ridden. Don't be fooled by the "suburb" label. There are very active gang members in quiet towns like Park Forest too. It's just in towns like Chicago Heights and Harvey the dope boys are actually on the block 24/7 taking turns doing shifts. The police seem to be uninterested for some odd reason...at least they are in those two towns.

About half way down the page, check out the crime index:

Just a couple of examples of Chicago's "suburbs."

Chicago is improving from in the 90's. In the 90's there where over 900 homocides a year. Now there is about high 400's low 500's. So chicago is improving in that aspect.

True, but I think most cities have had improving homicide rates since the 90s.

I think they may have gotten Maryland wrong. Maryland below Iowa? Maybe things are put out of proportion on our local news about gangs
