If anything, if there is a new capitol, why not do what Brazil did, and build a new one? The new capitol can have some of the world's best urban planners and architects, design a new city that is filled with grand boulevards, world class monuments, a state-of-the-art 21st century mass transit system, etc. That could be great. But, taxpayers would never foot that bill.

It already happened. It's called Washington, DC.

That doesn't mean it can't happen again. Brasillia has been the capitol of Brazil for over 40 years. Prior to that, it was Rio. Besides, dare I say DC is a little out dated?

Rio wasn't planned as the capital. DC was. A better analogy would be moving it from Philadelphia (and NYC and Baltimore and wherever else served as capital) to the planned capital of Washington D.C. Mission accomplished.

So what were're going to build a new city every 20 years? DC is not generally outdated in the least. Explain which factors of the city are

Plus, Brasilia is not a true city like DC, apparently. Brazilians say it doesn't have life and real neighborhoods, both of which DC has. DC was planned, but took off on its own and became a true, cosmopolitan city

So DC has been a city since 1989? How isn't Brasilla a "true" city? It has over 2 million people living there and is the only city founded in the 20th Century that is listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Besides, who are these "Brazilians" that say their capitol city lacks any real neighborhoods?

I think the real question is which city would be a better U.S. capital, Richmond or Brasilia? Is Richmond merely Brasilia crossed with Trenton? We can throw Canberra, Australia into the discussion too.
