Talking Good Places To Live Next to the warm Ocean

Hey Everyone,

I'm a young college guy looking to move from the western high desert to the ocean. I don't really mind where it is but in particular I'm looking for a place that is
- Close to the ocean (of-course)
- Warm enough to surf
- Friendly people
- Cheap enough for a college guy to live/rent
- has a good night life/ activities

If anyone would be willing to offer any insight I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

On the east coast, you will have to live in south Florida to have water warm enough to surf in year-round (without a wetsuit). The surfing is usually not that great (the best surfing on the east coast is probably on the Outer Banks of NC). But occasionally you can get some worthwhile waves.
I would recommend that you check out Delray Beach, FL; this is an artsy community with a busy downtown area full of shops, bars and cafes. It has attracted a lot of young singles over the past few years.

I'd look into the Oceanfront area of Virginia Beach.

Maybe San Diego? Great town with good surfing. Hawaii might be good for you, too - but it is expensive.

Next, Panama.

Next, USVI St Croix, cheapest of the US VI and largest.

You say you're a college guy. I assume that means you would have to transfer colleges if you move. This would play a big factor in where you live. But there are colleges everywhere, so you should have no problem finding the right college for you.

Other than that...

Avoid the west coast. Too expensive. On the east coast, look into places in the South. The water may not be warm enough to swim year round (other than South Florida), but the water warms up early in the season and gets quite warm (around 80) in the summer.

Here is a list of places to look into for starters

Virginia Beach
Outer Banks
Wilmington, NC
Charleston, SC
Savannah
basically anywhere along the coast in Florida

If you're willing to live further inland (an hour or so from the ocean), you would have even more options
