I am from Kentucky and I don't think people realize how offensive it is when we are left out.

yes, this belle has brought this up before. If you include Kentucky, then you should include Southern Illinois too (Cairo area) because those folks speak with a lengthy drawl and if you talk to them on the phone you might confuse them as people from Georgia or South Carolina. What throws it off, and brings Kentucky into play as being a southern state, is when the OP included Texas for argument's sake when IMO Texas stands alone and is not southern, it is simply Texas.
