Having been to all of the major cities in both Texas and Florida, I would pick Florida --

In my opinion it's more beautiful, I also find the west coast to be very friendly and laid back.

In terms of the economy, I wouldn't say one is really better than the other. It just depends on which industry you want to get into. If you want to go into oil, Texas is your place. However, if you are interested in a Health Care / Hospital career, there are more opportunities in FL.

Florida. South Florida is one of my favorite regions in this country, so honestly that is most of the reason I would pick Florida. You see, I am a little biased because I grew up there. The cost of living really isn't that bad either when compared to the NE and California, but I can see why people would pick TX (inexpensive) over Florida (middle-of-the-road when it comes to cost) if cost of living is a major factor.

I just simply do not agree with that. Texas has a much larger and more broader economy than Florida. It's not just oil in the state of Texas. You also have the port, technology, biotechnology, farming, a growing nanotechnology industry, health field (remember the largest concentration of medical research is found in Houston called the TMC and this does not include fast growing South Texas Medical Center and Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas). Now Florida, you do have banking, tourism, and health care. But Texas matches Florida in two of those three.

I spit out my drink reading this!, saying that Florida's economy can even compete with Texas is just downright ignorant.

Thanks
Sorry it took me so long to respond.

Most of it comes down to the climate. I dislike high humidity. I spent two weeks on a business trip in Titusville, Florida about two years ago. The heat and humidity was pretty bad even then, and this was in January. Titusville is a nice enough place though.

You'll find high humidity in Texas too.

Texas really is simply a better state in almost every category except in the quality of our beaches. Florida wins there. Hands down. Texas has some decent beaches, especially further south, but Florida's beaches are top notch.

Only Miami's nightlife is better. The rest of Florida is eh. Although Houston's nightlife is improving rapidly especially down Westheimer from Downtown to Uptown. That will be an interesting stretch in 5-10 years.
